Remmy Sserwadda (b. 1994, Kampala, Uganda) is a visual artist whose work bridges traditional Ugandan cultural motifs with contemporary figuration. Self-taught and grounded in a practice that began in 2017, Sserwadda emerged on the national scene with Surfaces (Afriart Gallery, 2019), marking the start of a full-time career.

His work draws from the textures of daily life and ancestral traditions, often centering the human figure in Dutch wax textiles to explore themes of identity, cultural memory, and continuity amidst global influence. Deeply inspired by indigenous foods and local customs, his most recent series uses food as metaphor—conjuring belonging, sustenance, and communal life in Uganda.

Sserwadda held his first solo exhibition, Friend Request (Xenson Art Space, 2021), after winning the space’s annual award for emerging artists. He has participated in several key group exhibitions, including Look One (Xenson Art Space, 2020), Kampala Contemporary (AKKA Project, Dubai, 2022), and African Identities (AKKA Project, 2022). His work has been featured in leading East African publications and is recognized for its vibrant celebration of African norms, aesthetics, and lived experience.

Working in Kampala, he continues to document, critique, and affirm everyday Ugandan life—inviting dialogue between Africa and its diasporas, and between tradition and modernity.
